The group brought their potent blend of disco and soul to the world on Slippin' And Dippin' with its irresistible smooth and funky grooves in 1980. The trio recorded I Wanna Be With You (1979) for Midwest International Records. Before long, De-Lite Records, flush with success from Kool & the Gang's platinum-selling Ladies Night (1979), signed the group and issued the album. De-Lite issued 45's of both ‘Slip And Dip’ and ‘Mom And Dad 1980’, a tale about teenage pregnancy that had originally been a hit for the Lovelites in 1969. However, Coffee''s defining moment came with ‘Casanova’. The song had reached the R&B Top 10 in 1967 for Ruby Andrews. UK audiences pushed the song to #13 on a 10-week run while the double A-Side ‘Slip And Dip’/’I Wanna Be With You’ followed, peaking at #57 towards the end of 1980.
