On the occasion of Rudolf Serkin's 120th birthday, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing Serkin's last Beethoven recordings for the first time: The two piano sonatas "Waldstein" and "Appassionata", recorded in 1986 and 1989. Due to Serkin's advanced illness, he was unable to finally approve the tapes at the time. This release of the great Beethoven pianist has now been made possible thanks to the support of Serkin's daughter Judith Serkin, who also contributed a personal text for the booklet.
