From New York's Greenwich Village to the charts, from the gay subculture to the mainstream: Village People had a decisive influence on the disco sound of the late 70s. The band, founded by producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, consisted of characters from the gay scene: motorcyclists, Indians, cowboys, construction workers, policemen and soldiers.
